Crunchy Oven Chickpeas

Don’t know how to cook your chickpeas? Of course, a good hummus is really delicious! But in the following recipe, chickpeas will surprise you! They are crisp and tasty! It is perfect as an appetizer, as a snack or on a slice of bread, a salad or a vegetable dish! 

Here I suggest you two variants of these crunchy chickpeas! A salty and sweet one!
Salted chickpeas are perfect as a substitute for chips for example, or as an addition to a starter or main course if you want to add a crunchy bite!

The sweet variant, on the other hand, reminded me a little of sweet popcorn! Amazing and really delicious, it was worth a try!

To cook the chickpeas, I recommend 35 minutes, but depending on the ovens, the power is not always the same. You can count between 30 to 40 minutes of cooking time, and you should get good results! 

The cooling time is very important here. When they get out of the pan, the chickpeas are not at their maximum crunch! We really have to wait until they cool down! So 30 minutes minimum, a little more if you can resist 🙂

FYI: chickpeas are a very high source of fibres and protein, which makes them a very interesting leguminous vegetable to have in our diet!

Crunchy Oven Chickpeas

Ingredients

  • 200 g canned chickpeas ( 1 cup )

For the salty variant

  • 1/2 tsp ginger
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil

For the sweet variant

  • 1 tbsp powdered sugar
  • 1 pinch of salt

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 180°C | 350°F.
  • Drain and rinse the chickpeas thoroughly.
  • Spread them evenly on a baking sheet covered with baking paper.
  • Bake them for 35 minutes. After 30 minutes, watch your chickpeas carefully.
  • Once cooked, pour half of the chickpeas into a pan and the other half into another pan.
  • In the first, over medium heat, pour a tablespoon of coconut oil, ginger, turmeric and salt. Stir constantly for about 5 minutes. Remove them from the heat and spread them evenly on a plate. Let them cool 30 minutes before eating.
  • In the second pan over medium heat, add sugar and a pinch of salt. Stir constantly for about 5 minutes.  Remove them from the heat and spread them evenly on a plate. Let them cool 30 minutes before eating.
